VATICAN CITY (CNS) -- The wisdom of "It takes a village to raise a child" has been lost as kids are either overprotected by permissive parents or neglected, Pope Francis said.

"The educational partnership has been broken" as families, schools and society are "no longer united together for the child," he said Sept. 4 after holding his first Google Hangout -- a live video conversation -- across five continents with teenagers who belong to the international network of "Scholas occurentes," uniting students of all faiths and cultures.

Parents and teachers used to stick together to teach kids important values, the pope said, recalling when he got into trouble in the fourth grade.

"I wasn't respectful toward the teacher, and the teacher called my mother. My mother came, I stayed in class and the teacher stepped out, then they called for me," he told a group of educators and experts involved with the worldwide Scholas network.

"My mom was really calm. I feared the worst," he said. After getting him to admit to his wrongdoing, his mother told him to apologize to the teacher.

The pope said he apologized and remembered "it was easy and I was happy. But there was an Act 2 when I got home," insinuating stiffer punishment had followed.

However, today, "at least in lots of schools in my country," if a teacher notes a problem with a student, "the next day, the mother and father denounce the teacher," he said.

The family, schools and culture have to work together for the well-being of the child, he said. People have to "rebuild this village in order to educate a child."

All of society also needs to help children and young people who are homeless, exploited, victims of violence or without any prospects, he said.

The pope pointed the blame on today's "culture of disposal" and "the cult of money" for creating and perpetuating adults' apathy to or complicity in the mistreatment of kids.

This is why "it's very important to strengthen bonds: social, family and personal ties" with kids and young adults, and create an environment that helps them approach the world with "trust and serenity."

Otherwise, kids will be "left only with the path of delinquency and addiction," he said.

The pope's comments came at the end of an afternoon encounter to launch scholas.social -- a new social network for students from all over the world to cooperate on environmental and social causes, sport and art initiatives, and charitable activities.

The Scholas initiative was begun in Buenos Aires and supported by its then-Archbishop Jorge Bergoglio, who also used to teach high school when he was a young Jesuit priest.

When he became pope, he asked fellow Argentine Bishop Marcelo Sanchez Sorondo, chancellor of the Pontifical Academy of Sciences, to expand the network's reach and impact.

With a small digital camera and studio lights aimed at him in the Vatican synod hall, the pope took questions from five Scholas members, who were linked in from Australia, Israel, Turkey, South Africa and El Salvador.

The pope urged the young people to build bridges through open and respectful communication, in which they listen carefully to others and exchange experiences, ideas and values.

Sina, a teenage boy in Istanbul, thanked the pope for letting more than schools and students come together, "but also our beliefs and hearts." He then asked the pope if he thought the future was going to get better or worse.

"I don't have a crystal ball like witches do to see the future," the pope answered, adding that what the future will be like is in the hands of today's young people.

The future "is in your heart, it's in your mind and your hands," and if people cultivate constructive thoughts and feeling and do good things, "the future will be better."

He said young people need two things: They need wings to fly and the courage to dream of big things, and they need strong roots and respect for their culture, their heritage and all the wisdom passed down from their elders.

"Today's young people need three key foundations: education, sports and culture, that's why Scholas unites everything," he said.

He urged the teens to speak out against war and injustice, and to stick together like a team, defending each other against "gangs" and other negative influences that only seek to destroy and isolate people.

His last piece of advice, he said, came from Jesus, who often said, "Be not afraid!"

"Don't lose your nerve. Don't be afraid. Keep going. Build bridges of peace. Play as a team and build a better future because, remember, that the future is in your hands."

ക്രസ്‌തവര്‍ വിശുദ്ധ കുര്‍ബാനയില്‍ ഉപയോഗിക്കുന്ന വീഞ്ഞിനെ സംബന്ധിച്ച്‌ അനാവശ്യവിവാദങ്ങള്‍ ഉണ്‌ടാകാന്‍ ഇടയായ സാഹചര്യത്തില്‍ കത്തോലിക്കാസഭയുടെ ആരാധനയില്‍ ഉപയോഗിക്കുന്ന വീഞ്ഞിനെ സംബന്ധിച്ച വസ്‌തുതകള്‍ വിശദീകരിക്കേണ്‌ടത്‌ ആവശ്യമായി വന്നിരിക്കുന്നു. സാക്രമെന്റല്‍ വൈന്‍ അഥവാ കുര്‍ബാന വീഞ്ഞ്‌ മദ്യമല്ല മദ്യത്തിന്റെ നിയമപരമായ നിര്‍വചനത്തിലോ പരിധിയിലോ വരുന്നതുമല്ല. ക്രസ്‌തവസഭകളുടെ വിശ്വാസം, ആരാധനാ പാരമ്പര്യം എന്നിവയുടെ വെളിച്ചത്തില്‍ വേണം കുര്‍ബാന വീഞ്ഞിന്റെ അര്‍ഥവും പ്രസക്തിയും മനസിലാക്കാന്‍.

യഹൂദരുടെ പെസഹാ ആചരണത്തിന്റെയും പാപപരിഹാരബലിയുടെയും പശ്ചാത്തലത്തിലാണു യേശുവിന്റെ കുരിശിലെ ആത്മബലിയെ പുതിയ നിയമം വ്യാഖ്യാനിക്കുന്നത്‌. പെസഹാ കുഞ്ഞാടിന്റെ മൃഗബലിയല്ല, ദൈവപുത്രന്റെ ആത്മബലിയാണു പാപമോചനത്തിന്റെയും രക്ഷയുടെയും മാര്‍ഗമായി പുതിയനിയമം ചൂണ്‌ടിക്കാട്ടുന്നത്‌ അവന്റെ രക്തമാണു മനുഷ്യവംശത്തിന്റെ പാപക്കറകള്‍ കഴുകി വെടിപ്പാക്കിയത്‌. ഈ ആത്മബലിയുടെ മുന്നാവിഷ്‌കാരം എന്ന നിലയിലാണു യേശു ശിഷ്യരോടൊപ്പം അന്ത്യഅത്താഴം ആചരിച്ചത്‌.

അത്താഴവേളയില്‍ അപ്പവും വീഞ്ഞും താന്‍ ബലിയായി അര്‍പ്പിക്കാനിരിക്കുന്ന മാംസരക്തങ്ങളുടെ പ്രതീകവും തുടര്‍ന്നുള്ള അവിടത്തെ തിരുസാന്നിധ്യത്തിന്റെ സാര്‍വത്രിക അടയാളവുമായി അവര്‍ക്കു നല്‌കി. കാലാന്ത്യത്തില്‍ വീണ്‌ടും അവിടത്തെ കണ്‌ടുമുട്ടുവോളം അവിടുത്തെ ബലിയുടെ ഓര്‍മ്മയ്‌ക്കായി ഇത്‌ ആചരിക്കണമെന്ന കല്‌പനയും നല്‌കി. ക്രിസ്‌തുവിന്റെ രക്തത്തിലുള്ള ഈ പുതിയ ഉടമ്പടിയുടെ നവീകരണവും പുനരാവിഷ്‌കാരവുമാണ്‌ ഓരോ വിശുദ്ധ കുര്‍ബാനയും. അതിനാല്‍ അപ്പവും വീഞ്ഞും ക്രസ്‌തവ ആരാധനയുടെ അവിഭാജ്യഘടകങ്ങളാണ്‌.

കത്തോലിക്കാസഭയുടെ ഈ വിശ്വാസത്തില്‍നിന്നു വ്യത്യസ്‌തമായ വിശ്വാസാചാരങ്ങള്‍ പുലര്‍ത്തുന്ന ക്രസ്‌തവസഭകളുണ്‌ട്‌. അവര്‍ കുര്‍ബാനയിലുള്ള ക്രിസ്‌തുസാന്നിധ്യത്തെ സംബന്ധിച്ചും വിശുദ്ധ കുര്‍ബാനയുടെ ആചാരപരമായ അനുഷ്‌ഠാനങ്ങളെ സംബന്ധിച്ചും വ്യത്യസ്‌ത സമീപനങ്ങള്‍ പുലര്‍ത്തുന്നവരാണ്‌. പെന്തക്കോസ്‌ത്‌, ബാപ്‌റ്റിസ്റ്റ്‌, മെതോഡിസ്റ്റ്‌, സാല്‍വേഷന്‍ ആര്‍മി, ചില ഇവാഞ്ചലിക്കല്‍ സഭകള്‍ എന്നിവയ്‌ക്കു കുര്‍ബാനയെ സംബന്ധിച്ചും അതില്‍ ഉപയോഗിക്കുന്ന അപ്പത്തെയും വീഞ്ഞിനെയും സംബന്ധിച്ചും വ്യത്യസ്‌ത കാഴ്‌ചപ്പാടുകളുണ്‌ട്‌. വീഞ്ഞിനു പകരം മുന്തിരി ജ്യൂസോ മറ്റെന്തെങ്കിലും പാനീയങ്ങളോ ഉപയോഗിക്കുന്നതില്‍ തെറ്റില്ല എന്ന്‌ ഈ പാരമ്പര്യത്തില്‍പ്പെട്ട ചില സഭകള്‍ കരുതുന്നു. അതിന്‌ അവര്‍ക്കു സ്വാതന്ത്യ്രവുമുണ്‌ട്‌.

കേരളസഭയില്‍ യൂറോപ്യന്‍ മിഷനറിമാരുടെ ആഗമനം വരെയും ഓരോ ഇടവകപ്പള്ളിയിലും വിശുദ്ധ കുര്‍ബാനയ്‌ക്കുള്ള വീഞ്ഞുണ്‌ടാക്കിയിരുന്നു. ചൈനയില്‍ നിന്ന്‌ ഇറക്കുമതി ചെയ്‌തിരുന്ന ഉണക്ക മുന്തിരിങ്ങ വെള്ളത്തിലിട്ടു കുതിര്‍ത്തു പിഴിഞ്ഞെടുത്ത ചാറാണ്‌ ഇതിനായി ഉപയോഗിച്ചിരുന്നത്‌. എഡി 1502ല്‍ വെനീസില്‍ നിന്ന്‌ പ്രസിദ്ധീകരിച്ച ഇന്ത്യക്കാരന്‍ ജോസഫിന്റെ വിവരണം”((Narrative of Joseph the Indian) എന്ന ഇരുപത്തഞ്ചിലേറെ ഭാഷകളിലേക്കു വിവര്‍ത്തനം ചെയ്യപ്പെട്ടിട്ടുള്ള പുസ്‌തകത്തില്‍ ഇതുസംബന്ധിച്ച വിവരണം കാണാം. കേരളസഭയില്‍ ഇന്നത്തെ രീതിയിലുള്ള സാക്രമെന്റല്‍ വൈന്‍ (കുര്‍ബാനവീഞ്ഞ്‌) ഉപയോഗിച്ചു തുടങ്ങിയത്‌ ഉദയംപേരൂര്‍ സൂനഹദോസിനു (1599) ശേഷമാണ്‌. ഇതിനാവശ്യമായ വീഞ്ഞ്‌ പോര്‍ച്ചുഗലില്‍ നിന്നു കൊണ്‌ടുവരുന്ന പതിവാണ്‌ അന്നുണ്‌ടായിരുന്നത്‌. കുര്‍ബാനയ്‌ക്ക്‌ ഉപയോഗിക്കേണ്‌ട വീഞ്ഞിനെപ്പറ്റി കാനന്‍ നിയമം വ്യക്തമായ നിര്‍ദേശം നല്‌കുന്നുണ്‌ട്‌. 1983ലെ പാശ്ചാത്യ പൗരസ്‌ത്യസഭകളുടെ കാനന്‍ നിയമസംഹിതകളില്‍ (CIC No. 924, CCEO No. 706) മുന്തിരിയില്‍ നിന്നു തയാറാക്കിയ ശുദ്ധമായ വീഞ്ഞാണു വിശുദ്ധ കുര്‍ബാനയ്‌ക്ക്‌ ഉപയോഗിക്കേണ്‌ടത്‌ എന്നു വ്യക്തമാക്കിയിരിക്കുന്നു.

1938ല്‍ കൊച്ചി ദിവാന്‍ പുറപ്പെടുവിച്ച കൊച്ചിന്‍ മാസ്‌ വൈന്‍ റൂള്‍സ്‌ എന്ന പ്രത്യേക നിയമപ്രകാരമാണു കേരളത്തില്‍ കത്തോലിക്കാസഭയിലെ വിശുദ്ധ കുര്‍ബാനയ്‌ക്കാവശ്യമായ വീഞ്ഞുണ്‌ടാക്കുന്നത്‌. ഇത്‌ 1969ലെ കേരള ഗസറ്റിലെ വിജ്ഞാപനം വഴി നിയമപരമായി സാധൂകരിക്കപ്പെട്ടിട്ടുണ്‌ട്‌. അബ്‌കാരി ആക്‌ടിലും 1970-ലെ കേരള വൈനറി ചട്ടങ്ങളിലും നിര്‍വചിക്കപ്പെടുന്ന വൈന്‍ കുര്‍ബാന വീഞ്ഞില്‍ നിന്നു തികച്ചും വ്യത്യസ്‌തമാണ്‌. അതിനാല്‍ സമ്പൂര്‍ണ മദ്യനിരോധനം ഏര്‍പ്പെടുത്തുന്ന സാഹചര്യത്തിലും കുര്‍ബാനവീഞ്ഞ്‌ നിയമവിരുദ്ധമാകുന്നില്ല. കൊച്ചിന്‍ മാസ്‌ വൈന്‍ റൂള്‍സ്‌ എന്ന പേരില്‍ തന്നെ നിലനിര്‍ത്തിയിരിക്കുന്ന നിയമത്തില്‍ കുര്‍ബാന വീഞ്ഞിന്റെ നിര്‍മാണം, സ്റ്റോക്കുചെയ്യല്‍, വിതരണം ഇവ സംബന്ധിച്ചും സൂക്ഷിക്കേണ്‌ട രജിസ്റ്ററുകള്‍, ഫയല്‍ ചെയ്യേണ്‌ട റിട്ടേണ്‍സ്‌ എന്നിവയെ സംബന്ധിച്ചും വ്യക്തമായ നിര്‍ദേശങ്ങള്‍ നല്‌കിയിരിക്കുന്നു. ഇവയെല്ലാം കൃത്യമായി പാലിച്ചുകൊണ്‌ടാണു സഭയില്‍ പ്രത്യേകം നിയോഗിക്കപ്പെട്ടിട്ടുള്ളവര്‍ കുര്‍ബാനയ്‌ക്കാവശ്യമായ വീഞ്ഞുണ്‌ടാക്കുന്നത്‌. കുര്‍ബാനയ്‌ക്കുപയോഗിക്കുന്ന വീഞ്ഞ്‌ സാധാരണ മദ്യത്തിന്റെ ഇനത്തില്‍പെടുത്താതെ ഒരു പ്രത്യേക പാനീയമായി പരിഗണിക്കുന്നതുകൊണ്‌ടാണ്‌ കുര്‍ബാന വീഞ്ഞിനെ സംബന്ധിച്ച്‌ സര്‍ക്കാര്‍ പ്രത്യേക നിയമങ്ങള്‍ നിര്‍മിച്ചത്‌. ഈ നിയമപ്രകാരമുള്ള ലൈസന്‍സാണു വിവിധ രൂപതകള്‍ക്കും സന്യാസസഭകള്‍ക്കും നല്‌കപ്പെട്ടത്‌. ഇതിന്റെ ഉപയോഗം സംബന്ധിച്ച്‌ ഏതെങ്കിലും തരത്തിലുള്ള പരാതിയോ ഏതെങ്കിലും കോടതിയില്‍ കേസോ ഇതുവരെ ഉണ്‌ടായതായും അറിവില്ല.

ബാര്‍ പൂട്ടിയാല്‍ പള്ളിയും പൂട്ടണം എന്ന ന്യായവാദമുന്നയിക്കുന്നവരോടു പറയട്ടെ "വിശുദ്ധ കുര്‍ബാന വൈന്‍ ഒരു ആല്‍ക്കഹോളിക്ക്‌ ലിക്കര്‍ (മദ്യം). അല്ല അതുസാധാരണ വീഞ്ഞുമല്ല. അതു വിശുദ്ധ കുര്‍ബാന അര്‍പ്പിക്കുന്നതിനു മാത്രം ഉപയോഗിക്കുന്നതിനുള്ള പ്രത്യേക പാനീയമാണ്‌. ഒരൗണ്‍സ്‌ കുര്‍ബാനവീഞ്ഞില്‍ നിന്നു നൂറുകണക്കിഌ വിശ്വാസികളാണു വിശുദ്ധ കുര്‍ബാന സ്വീകരിക്കുന്നത്‌. ഇതില്‍ നിയമവിരുദ്ധമായി ഒന്നുമില്ല. പൊതുസമൂഹത്തിന്റെ നന്മയ്‌ക്കല്ലാതെ യാതൊരുവിധ തിന്മയ്‌ക്കും ഇതു കാരണമാകുന്നുമില്ല. വിശ്വാസപരമായും ചരിത്രപരമായും ചെയ്‌തുവരുന്ന കാര്യം ഒരു വിവാദമാക്കി ജനങ്ങളില്‍ തെറ്റിദ്ധാരണ ഉളവാക്കിയതില്‍ കത്തോലിക്കാസഭയ്‌ക്കു പ്രതിഷേധമുണ്‌ട്‌.

ഇപ്പോള്‍ നടക്കുന്ന വിവാദങ്ങള്‍ അനാവശ്യവും ദുരുദ്ദേശ്യപരവുമാണ്‌. ഇതു സ്വന്തം കാര്യം നേടാനായി എന്തു മുട്ടായുക്തിയും ഉപയോഗിക്കാന്‍ മടിക്കാത്തവരുടെ കുടിലതയില്‍ നിന്നുണ്‌ടായിട്ടുള്ളതുമാണ്‌. പുതിയ മദ്യനയം സംബന്ധിച്ചു പരാതിയുള്ളവര്‍ അവ സര്‍ക്കാരിന്റെ ശ്രദ്ധയില്‍ കൊണ്‌ടുവരികയാണു വേണ്‌ടത്‌. ഏതെങ്കിലും സമുദായത്തിന്റെ വിശ്വാസത്തെയോ ആചാരങ്ങളെയോ മറയാക്കി വളഞ്ഞവഴിയിലൂടെ കാര്യം നടത്താന്‍ ശ്രമിക്കേണ്‌ടതില്ല. എന്നാല്‍, മദ്യവ്യവസായികളുടെയും തൊഴിലാളികളുടെയും ന്യായമായ പരാതികളും പ്രശ്‌നങ്ങളും കേള്‍ക്കനും പരിഹാരമുണ്‌ടാക്കാനുമുള്ള ഉത്തരവാദിത്വത്തില്‍ നിന്നു സര്‍ക്കാര്‍ ഒഴിഞ്ഞുമാറുകയുമരുത്‌

Past popes have set a variety of records, but Pope Francis seems sure to be setting the record for papal selfies.

Even aboard the papal flight to Seoul, South Korea, in mid-August, Pope Francis posed for selfies with some of the Vatican press corps.

To be fair, the technology for selfies was not as prevalent for past popes. But then again, air travel was not as prevalent as when St. John Paul II set a record for papal travels.

But can you imagine not only eating lunch with Pope Francis, but posing for a photo with him afterward?

ROME -- Pope Francis on Tuesday urged 50,000 German altar servers not to waste time on the Internet, smartphones and television, but to spend their time on more productive activities. "Maybe many young people waste too many hours on futile things," the pope said in a short speech to the altar servers — young people who help the priest during religious services — who had come to Rome on a pilgrimage. "Our life is made up of time, and time is a gift from God, so it is important that it be used in good and fruitful actions." Activities cited by Francis as futile were: "chatting on the Internet or with smartphones, watching TV soap operas, and (using) the products of technological progress, which should simplify and improve the quality of life, but distract attention away from what is really important."

The 77-year-old pope has Twitter accounts in several languages. They were first used by his predecessor Benedict in 2011, and his English-language account has 4.3 million followers. Francis has described the Internet as a "gift from God," but also cautioned that high-speed world of digital social media needed calm, reflection and tenderness if it was to be "a network not of wires but of people."

1. “Live and let live.” Everyone should be guided by this principle, he said, which has a similar expression in Rome with the saying, “Move forward and let others do the same.”

2. “Be giving of yourself to others.” People need to be open and generous toward others, he said, because “if you withdraw into yourself, you run the risk of becoming egocentric. And stagnant water becomes putrid.”

3. “Proceed calmly” in life. The pope, who used to teach high school literature, used an image from an Argentine novel by Ricardo Guiraldes, in which the protagonist — gaucho Don Segundo Sombra — looks back on how he lived his life.

4. A healthy sense of leisure. The Pope said “consumerism has brought us anxiety”, and told parents to set aside time to play with their children and turn of the TV when they sit down to eat.

5. Sundays should be holidays. Workers should have Sundays off because “Sunday is for family,” he said.

6. Find innovative ways to create dignified jobs for young people. “We need to be creative with young people. If they have no opportunities they will get into drugs” and be more vulnerable to suicide, he said.

7. Respect and take care of nature. Environmental degradation “is one of the biggest challenges we have,” he said. “I think a question that we're not asking ourselves is: 'Isn't humanity committing suicide with this indiscriminate and tyrannical use of nature?'”

8. Stop being negative. “Needing to talk badly about others indicates low self-esteem. That means, 'I feel so low that instead of picking myself up I have to cut others down,'” the Pope said. “Letting go of negative things quickly is healthy.”

9. Don't proselytise; respect others' beliefs. “We can inspire others through witness so that one grows together in communicating. But the worst thing of all is religious proselytism, which paralyses: 'I am talking with you in order to persuade you,' No. Each person dialogues, starting with his and her own identity. The church grows by attraction, not proselytising,” the Pope said.

10. Work for peace. “We are living in a time of many wars,” he said, and “the call for peace must be shouted. Peace sometimes gives the impression of being quiet, but it is never quiet, peace is always proactive” and dynamic.
